Exhibitor Glossary

First time exhibitor? Here’s a list of things we refer to that may be new if you haven’t exhibited before.

Name Brick: A 1×8 white brick with up to 20 characters engraved in black lettering. It could be a name, nickname, build name, or almost anything else really. Note that we won’t print anything we deem offensive or inappropriate and we can’t print emoji’s or special characters. Each exhibitor receives one name brick regardless of the number of individual / group builds being displayed. Name bricks can be attached to clothing with a magnetic clip, and these are usually available for sale at the Brickvention merch stand from convention day afternoon. See image below.

Brickvention Year Brick: Exhibitors receive an event year brick to commemorate exhibiting. Each exhibitor receives one year brick, regardless of the number of builds. See image above.

Brickvention Year Double Brick: This brick is available for purchase at the merch stand from Convention Day until sold out. See below.

Bump In / Out: Bump in refers to the period of time available for setting up your exhibit, and is usually on Thursday before Brickvention starts. All exhibits must be completely installed by the close of bump in – exhibits can not be set up during convention day or exhibition days. Bump out is the time when you can pack up and remove your exhibit after the close of the exhibition. Exhibits must not be packed up prior to the announcement that the exhibition is closed. Exact timing and logistics for bump in and bump out will be advised in the exhibitor manual.

Convention Day: Friday is convention day and is a day of special programming for all exhibitors and a limited number of ticket holders to enjoy. The format of the day usually involves talks and activities around the main stage in the morning, a break for lunch and vendors opening, and workshops / other activities in the afternoon. If you are a registered exhibitor you have free access to convention day. Public access to convention day tickets will be announced on the Brickvention Facebook page, usually prior to general expo tickets being released.

Convention Dinner: Exhibitors and Convention ticket holders are invited to Saturday night’s convention dinner, which is a sit down dinner at an off site location not too far from the REB. Registered exhibitors are offered subsidised ticket pricing as a thank you for attending Brickvention. In 2023 the convention dinner was held at the Old Melbourne Gaol.

Convention Set: Each year the Brickvention Design program offers a unique, locally themed and designed set for purchase. It is revealed on the morning of convention day, and exhibitors / convention day attendees get the first opportunity to purchase it from the Brickvention merch stand in the afternoon. Click the link above to learn more about the program and sets from previous years.

Exhibitor Bag: Each registered exhibitor will receive a bag full of merch! It usually contains: a bag of some variety (but may be other cool merch instead); exhibitor tshirt; brick badge; Brickvention year brick; exhibitor set; some promotional material from our vendors / sponsors; complimentary food bricks. Each exhibitor receives one bag regardless of the number of individual / group builds being displayed.

Exhibitor Facebook Group: This group is an additional method of communication to registered exhibitors, and we highly recommend joining. While all critical communications are sent via email, the group is a great place to get answers to questions and hear what others are up to. A link to the group is sent with exhibitor acceptances.

Exhibitor Manual: Each year we release a year-specific exhibitor manual that includes all the information you need to know about Brickvention. It is a webpage that is sent to all exhibitors (and posted in the facebook group) usually towards the end of the year as some information is not available until closer to the event. Keep an eye on emails and the exhibitor group!

Exhibitor Set: Each year the Brickvention team creates a small custom build as a gift to exhibitors for displaying at Brickvention. Instructions for this set are online and can be accessed via the QR code supplied with the build.

Exhibitor Tshirt: A coloured tshirt with the Brickvention logo on the front and “Brickvention Exhibitor” on the back. You will be asked to notify us of your tshirt size during the application process. Each exhibitor receives one tshirt regardless of the number of individual / group builds being displayed. It may be possible to order additional shirts, this will be communicated via the exhibitor Facebook group. Here is the size chart:

Food Brick: Each registered exhibitor will be supplied with 2 bricks that can be redeemed for $10 towards a food or beverage purchase at Brickvention. Note that change cannot be given if the purchase is under $10.

Public Expo: Saturday and Sunday are designated as Public days where anyone can purchase tickets and visit the awesomeness of Brickvention! The exhibition is usually open 9am – 5pm Saturday and 9am – 4pm Sunday.

Tables: Most exhibits will be placed on tables which are covered with a black, floor length tablecloth. Tables are 2.4 metres long, and 76cm deep. If you imagine a table with 32×32 baseplates laid out on it, you can fit 9 wide x 3 deep. It’s really important to give an accurate measurement for your build when you apply, as it is very difficult to add and remove table space later in the process. If your build does not sit on a table or has other special requirements, please make note of this in your application.

Train groups: “MLTC” is the Melbourne L-Gauge Train Club and “VRLGM” is the Victorian Railways L- Gauge Modellers. You may see these acronyms referred to in the manual, map and other communications.
